The STEAM approach and interdisciplinary learning in elementary students

Introduction: STEAM is a term that refers to Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics, born in 2008, with the idea of turning the teaching and learning process into an integrated and creative process that causes a disruption in education, which can be combined with project-based methodologies.
Objective: The aim of this study is to analyze the impact of the STEAM approach and project-based learning on the improvement of knowledge and motivation of students.
Methods: The research is quasi-experimental, quantitative approach, as a data collection technique was used to measure motivation was used to measure the academic motivation evaluation questionnaire for students developed by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training to a group of 24 students of 24 students in the sixth year of EGB of the Alejandro Sergio Bermeo Educational Unit.
Results: The STEAM and ABP approach, achieve the improvement of knowledge in the subjects of Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Cultural and Artistic Education and Technology, that the motivation of the students after the application of the research improved significantly, being in males much higher than in females.
Conclusions: The STEAM approach and project-based learning manages to improve the academic motivation of students, more motivation was achieved in men than in women the study determines that the STEAM approach combined with PBL achieves better levels of motivation in men than in women.
